Adjunct Life - Or, Do I Get a Stapler Too?

Lecture Construction, Delivery and Tools
Overview

In this technologically filled world, students are expecting the delivery methods of lectures match the other ways they are currently  acquiring information.

Recognizing this, campuses  have implemented smart classrooms and have made available a variety of other technology-based tools to its faculty.

In addition, deans are requiring faculty to offer at least some of their course functions, like grade books and calendars to students, online.

As an adjunct faculty member, this may pose some unique challenges. Head them off by:

  • Get a login and password to the computer and to the school's intranet.

  • Getting into your classroom early to locate documentation on how to use available equipment. Practicing a lecture or portions of your in the room you will be using helps a great deal.

  • Make sure the CD/DVD format you use is compatible with the equipment in the classroom.  Whether materials are recorded on CD-R, CD+R, CD-RW, DVD+,  DVD +R etc. will make a huge difference in whether  the equipment on campus can read it.
  • Before the lecture, if you can, open all of the programs and upload everything you will need for the lecture.

Now that we've covered some of the first things, we will begin talking about lecture organization, delivery and tools and active learning.
